Synthetic gut strings feature a solid core with wraps coiled around it, providing good durability and all-around playability at a great price. They are a good option for Junior players, beginners of all ages and casual players.
Polyester monofilaments are for experienced players who require high levels of control, spin and durability. Although too stiff and underpowered for beginners, the polyester category includes softer options for those who want a more arm-friendly hitting experience. Junior players should avoid them until they are at a stage when they are breaking synthetic gut or multifilament too frequently. At this stage progressing to a hybrid is a better option than using a full bed of polyester straight away.
Built from hundreds or thousands of flexible microfibers, multifilament strings specialize in comfort and power. In addition to providing an arm-friendly hitting experience, multifilament strings are the closest synthetic option to natural gut. They are therefore a good, affordable option for players who struggle with arm problems such as tennis elbow.
Hybrids combine two different sets of string on the mains and crosses, usually featuring two different material types, to offer increased playability, durability or spin. There are countless possibilities and only some of our most popular options are listed below. A hybrid of polyester and synthetic gut or multifilament is a good transition option for advanced junior players who are breaking strings too often.
Made from the fibrous and stretchy serous membrane of cow intestines, natural gut is the game's most storied and iconic string type. Although it has been around since the 1800s, the tennis industry has yet to create an alternative that captures the magic of its elasticity, including the unrivalled comfort, power and feel that flows from it.<br /> Natural gut also retains its tension and optimal playing characteristics longer than any other string type. In addition to being a popular pick for players with tennis elbow or sensitive joints, natural gut is singular in that it can be tightly tensioned for control without compromising comfort. However the benefits of natural gut come at a premium cost. It also requires care and some different techniques to install the strings correctly so be wary of anyone offering to install it at a cheap rate.
If you want to supply your own string we can professionally install it in your frame. Discounts are available when 3 or more frames of the same type are supplied to be strung with the same string. Please ask for more details. If you are a very frequent string breaker we are also able to offer you preferential prices based on the frequency of re-strings required.
